Alternatively, take a walk along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal, a national historic park that has an interesting history dating back to the 18th century. It runs 184.5 miles along the north bank of the Potomac River, starting in Georgetown and ending in Cumberland, Maryland.
Lastly, for a short time longer in August you can enjoy the summertime Jazz in the Garden Series at the National Gallery of Art. The free concert series features jazz artists performing a wide variety of styles—salsa, blues fusion, xylophone, Afrofunk, and more—every Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:30 in the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden. It is the perfect place to mingle with your new neighbors.
