Whether your company manufactures helicopter propellers, sells dog food, perfects software, or keeps your city’s fashionistas clothed, you probably pay wages to your employees. Four times per year, you are required by law to tell the IRS how many employees you have, how much you’ve paid them, and how much you’ve withheld from your employees for taxes. To do this, you’ll need to fill out a 941 Form, which you can find and complete here–even fax it when you’re finished.
Be sure to have this information on hand:
- Your EIN or Federal Tax ID Number
- Your Employees’ Payroll Information
The IRS requires that employers fill out the 941 form on a quarterly basis. The deadlines are April 30, July 31, Oct. 31 and Jan. 31 of each year. The filing deadline always falls on the last day of the month following the end of the quarter. That means you have one month to prepare the form before submitting it to the IRS.
